Karen Bourke:
Artist/Tutor/ A4VH Art Co-Ordinator

Along with Paul in 2020 Karen helped to build the foundations of Art 4 Veterans Herefordshire. Recognising the medicinal importance art had in giving people a creative outlet to express themselves. This was clear to her having cared for family members, who had served in the forces, it was evident that art played a transformative part in their recovery.
Karen started her career in art at Carmarthenshire College of Art & Design and then went on to study a BDes degree at the University of Dundee, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
Karen has a passion for screen printing, drawing and collage as this process allows her to explore the use of layers which are deeply embedded within the concepts of her work. Having grown up on the coast of Pembrokeshire the maritime history along with its costal fortifications had a strong early influence on Karen. Exploring the ruins and traces of abandoned life fascinated her inquisitive mind. The subject trace, time and evidence left behind to create a narrative in abandoned spaces is evident within Karen’s work today.
